When Ryan Fox left pioneering San Diego quartet Fishwife (the first group to record for Headhunter Records), the band’s three remaining members could’ve hung it up. Instead, they took a summer vacation, then returned as this propulsive, rhythmically taut trio... Wood, a far less theatrical vocalist than Fox, strains his (sub)urban tales of alienation through a dry, nasal larynx that works well with Tanner’s angular, dynamic songwriting. Rather than write verse-chorus-verse punk, the trio piles riffs together — sort of a “hey, this would sound great after that” style — and the almost effortless march through complex changeups is engaging, quirky and cool.

(Germo)Phobic is the 2nd and last Full Length by the band and features members of Hot Snakes, Pinback, The Night Marchers, Beehive & the Barracudas, Hemlock, No Knife

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
